Marisa Murray

“Drawing is putting a line around an idea” – Henri Matisse

Marisa has a deep obsession with the ‘voice of line’. To capture the energy and nuances of her subject matter she will continue to draw and redraw the subject until her movements, and the quality of line, capture its very essence. She relies on multiple techniques to express her feelings and impressions.

Her current body of work drew inspiration from her home in the Royal National Park. Australian natives are her passion and have been integrated into her work as a symbol of her Australian identity. She has a continuing theme in her work which explores the duality of both her Argentinian and Australian heritage.

Marisa has completed design studies at a Bachelor level in Visual Communication from the University of Technology Sydney, majoring in photography. Murray also spent some time in New Zealand, where she studied various fine art courses at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, and in 2000 was a NZ finalist in the global Winsor & Newton Worldwide Millennium Painting Competition.
