Jo Parkin

Jo Parkin works with the re-imagining of found vintage images by juxtaposing the forms into a new narrative. The process of image selection for background, foreground and midground is lengthy and involves almost endless edits to create a new reality. The modern pastiche that is formed by the traditional cut and paste method brings a new contemporary tableaux to emerge.

“As a Sydney based collage artist, I use traditional methods of cut and paste across a range of different mediums; working with shape, size, colour and layering to create a new narrative from found images. This process involves the endless arrangement and adaptation of the material to produce a new perspective and interpretation of the subject that I am exploring.

I am in love with the beauty of paper its fragility and strength; the way it can so easily be cut, torn and folded but then with a slight manipulation it can be used to construct structural forms.”
